Moqari kilim. Sometimes these are described as being made by Muldari
- a semi-nomadic group of cow herders - or Koochi - gypsy-like people
who move
throughout Afghanistan. Probably made in Ghazni province.
These rugs invariably have the same format - a long slit-weave kilim with
central diamond medallions
and eight pointed stars in the borders. However,
all of the kilims are individual designs. Made in small numbers by a small
group of people. This one has been
made with a natural brown wool dyed
with a fugitive red - the red is still visible on the reverse.
400x148cm. A$1800. US$1350. Euro1060.
