Uzbek [Kazakh?] Jul-i-khirs ['bearskin']. Collected northern Afghanistan. Woven in three strips. The wool is coarse with a lot of hair, and the dyes could be natural - the green appears to be derived from a mixture of the yellow and blue. The dark brown wool is characteristic of jul-i-khirs, and is sometimes described as yak hair - more likely from a local hairy sheep or woolly goat. Of some age, but in very good condition. 9355 254x107cm A$1800. US$1350. Euro1060 [Price includes freight] |
