Uzbek. Jul-i-khirs ("Bearskin"). Northern Afghanistan.
1920s. Woven in five strips, each piece dyed after the
weaving. (One strip apparently
short, with an addition
to make up the length.) A beautiful example, fundamentally
intact, but some visible wear and old repairs. The ends
have been protected
with Russian chintz and woollen
fringes added. Ref: From Desert to Oasis - Arts of the People of Central Asia, Georgia Museum of Art. 9726. 298x94cm A$1600. US$1200. Euro960 [Price includes freight] |
